BRAGGSS stands for ‘Biologics in Rheumatoid Arthritis Genetics and Genomics Study Syndicate’. The main aim of the study is to evaluate the role of genetic and other factors in determining response to biologic treatment because :

  • The cost of providing these drugs is very high
  • Less than 40% of patients respond well to any given drug
  • There are now a number of drugs targeting different biologic pathways but nothing to guide clinicians as to which drug will work best for which patients.
  • Better targeting of available therapies will make best use of scarce resources.

Genetic and other factors can be used to predict response to treatment with biologic drugs.

To evaluate the role of genetic and other variation in determining response to treatment.
